Dr. Theodore Burnes

Dr. Theodore Burnes is a licensed psychologist (PSY 25544) and a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC600) in the state of California. He is an associate editor for the journal Training and Education in Professional Psychology, and he is the co-editor of Cases in Multicultural Clinical Supervision: Models, Lenses, and Applications.

Dr. Burnes has trained and worked primarily in university counseling centers and higher education settings, and now also consults to a variety of organizations in both public and private sectors about human capital, organizational effectiveness, and applying multicultural humility. His professional interests include the psychology of human sexual expression and sex-positivity; teaching and training pedagogy in mental health services; clinical supervision; social justice and advocacy; mental health and wellness for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and questioning (LGBTIQ) individuals; qualitative research epistemologies and ontologies. Theo is a fellow of the American Psychological Association (in Divisions 17 and 44).

Theo is also the Director of Training and Educational Programs at the Los Angeles Gender Center, where he supervisees pre-licensed professionals in building private practices and working with transgender and gender non-conforming clients, kink and poly-identified clients, and adolescent and young adult clients undergoing a range of needs.
